The Technologies that Reduce the Fuel Consumption in the 2022 Kia Seltos

The 2022 Kia Seltos is a stylish and practical compact SUV that is equipped with many technologies engineered to improve its fuel efficiency.

An advanced powertrain

The 2022 Kia Seltos comes standard with a 2.0L four-cylinder engine which benefits from the latest technologies in order to be as efficient as possible. For example, the engine runs on the Atkinson cycle instead of the more common Otto cycle. This cycle retards the closing of the intake valves in order to extract more energy from each drop of fuel. The Atkinson cycle is usually used in hybrid vehicles due to its inherent benefits in terms of fuel consumption. This engine is paired with an IVT transmission which is able to continuously adjust its ratio to keep the engine speed at the optimal level for every situation. Under acceleration, the transmission keeps the engine speed where the power output is the highest, while at stabilised vehicle speeds, the engine speed is kept at the minimum.

The drive modes

The 2022 Kia Seltos is equipped with a drive mode selector which gives you the choice between three different settings. In Eco mode, the accelerator and the transmission’s programming are revised in order to use as little fuel as possible. The accelerator becomes less responsive, which helps you accelerate from a stop with the least amount of throttle necessary and the transmission prioritises efficiency by using lower ratios than in normal mode. Eco mode is also helpful if you prefer a smoother drive, since it helps you control your accelerations better.

The Stop/Start system

The 2022 Kia Seltos features an engine Start/Stop system as part of its standard equipment. This technology helps reduce fuel consumption and polluting emissions by turning the engine off when the vehicle is stopped at traffic signals. As soon as you lift your foot off the brake pedal, the engine restarts seamlessly. This reduces the amount of fuel that is burned unnecessarily while idling and allows the Seltos to conserve its fuel for when it is actually needed.
