Kia vehicles exceed expectations in recent J.D. Power Initial Quality Study

Every year for the last 36 years, the J.D. Power Initial Quality Study has ranked the best vehicles in the automotive industry based on initial owner satisfaction after 90 days of possession. The goal of this study is to determine which vehicles cause the less problems to their owners in the first three months. Kia stood out this year by finishing fourth overall, well ahead of other Korean and Japanese mainstream brands, and tied with Genesis.

The J.D. Power Initial Quality Study found that on average new vehicles experienced 180 problems per 100 vehicles, an increase compared to 2021. On the other hand, Kia vehicles had just 152 problems per 100 vehicles while Honda, Hyundai, and Mazda had below-average results in the study.

The J.D. Power Initial Quality Study talks to owners who have owned their vehicle for at least 90 days and aims to determine which vehicles caused the less problems in the initial three months of ownership. This year, J.D. Power spoke with over 80,000 owners who answered 223 questions aimed at determining how satisfied they were with their purchase.

Besides finishing in the top 5 for initial quality, the Kia Forte also led the way in its segment for initial quality.
