The vehicles that we drive today are nowadays covered with safety features. These are often divided into two categories: active and passive. The latter refers to devices that come into action when a collision occurs, such as seatbelts and airbags.
In the case of active safety features, they are always on the lookout to prevent us from having an accident. At Kia, a wide range of these features is available. Here are three of them.
1 - Frontal Collision Alert with Collision Avoidance
Thanks to the work of a radar located at the front, your Kia is able to know the distance that separates it from the vehicle in front of it. If it detects that you're getting close to the vehicle in front, it will alert you visually and audibly, prompting you to step away. Better yet, this prevention system works in conjunction with an intervention system. In fact, if the driver does not react to the alerts sent to him or her, the brakes will automatically be applied to reduce the chance of an impact, or at least reduce the force of the impact.
2 - Blind spot alerts with intervention
Here too, two systems work in harmony to keep us safe. The first monitors the vehicle's blind spots. If an obstacle is encountered at this point, a warning light appears to inform you. If you are distracted and activate the blinker to change lanes at the same time, an audible signal will be heard. Then, as a final measure, if you try to force it, the collision avoidance system will intervene by braking the wheels on the opposite side to help you re-center into your lane.
3 - Alerting the driver's attention
Here is a system that would have been hard to imagine a few years ago, but which is now making small inroads throughout the industry. Once again, thanks to technology, this time it's an on-board device inside the vehicle that monitors our level of attention. If it perceives that we are tired or distracted, it lets us know via an audible warning. An approach capable of saving lives, nothing less.
