The Kia Seltos has had a really interesting debut on the market. Quickly after its introduction in the spring of 2020, this sub-compact SUV, which offers more space than any other in its class, has won over customers.
In fact, when consumers take the time to discover it, they often make it their choice, because what they realize with this vehicle is that it offers the perfect compromise.
Let's see how it does it.
Cargo Space
The 2022 Kia Seltos offers a format that straddles the subcompact SUV and compact SUV categories. It belongs to the former, but offers many of the advantages of the latter, especially when it comes to space. Anyone who rides in the back realizes this, as the legroom is sensational. Then, with all the seats in place, the trunk gives you access to 752 liters of cargo space. And when you put the rear seat down, that's 1778 liters. Extraordinary, really.
Competent powertrains
The Seltos is available with two types of powertrains. With the exception of the SX Turbo version, it's a 2.0-liter naturally-aspirated 4-cylinder engine that's between the front wheels. It produces 146 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque, which is more than enough for this vehicle. Better yet, the associated continuously variable transmission does an excellent job and contributes to good fuel economy.
If more power is essential, you'll get it with the aforementioned version and its 1.6-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, a block that's capable of 175 horsepower and 195 lb-ft. In this case, a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission takes care of the link between the wheels and the engine compartment.
Five interesting versions
Finally, like last year, there are the same five versions in the catalog; a winning line-up is not touched. The LX model is the entry-level model. It is available with or without all-wheel drive. With the two-wheel drive configuration, it comes with 16-inch wheels. That increases to 17 with four-wheel drive.
As for the equipment, there are the basics with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as heated seats.
With the EX trim, you can enjoy the sunroof, keyless access, push-button start, as well as Sofino leather. The EX Premium trim comes with LED headlights and fog lights, the UVO system that allows you to control a lot of the vehicle's features with your smartphone, navigation, and a 10.25-inch screen on the multimedia system. This version also allows you to charge your cellular device without the need for a cable.
Then, with the SX Turbo model, a Bose audio system awaits you on board, and behind the wheel, you'll discover the advantages of enjoying the head-up display.
Finally, a word about safety, an element with which Kia does not compromise. This is evident in the initial offering, where blind spot and rear cross-traffic alerts are offered. Then, starting with the EX model, forward collision avoidance assistance is added, as well as lane keeping assist.
