There are fewer cars on the market, which restricts your choice within certain categories. Where you are not restricted is at Kia where you can still find sedans, including the 2022 Forte and the 2022 K5.
Both are great selections for any buyer. However, since they are not in the same class, they offer somewhat different experiences. So how do you make the best choice?
By accurately identifying your needs. Let's take a closer look at the two models so we can give you a little help.
Two motors
Each model offers you an interesting choice in terms of mechanics. With both the Forte and the K5, you get a less powerful and more economical entry-level engine, as well as a more powerful but still fuel-efficient unit.
The question is, which do you prefer? The Forte's more powerful engine is the same one that comes standard with the K5. We're talking about a 1.6-liter turbo 4-cylinder. It offers 201 horsepower with the Forte, 180 with the K5 (torque is 195 lb-ft of torque throughout).
With the Forte, it will give you the power you're looking for, while with the K5, it will offer better fuel economy than the more powerful mill.
The latter is a 2.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder capable of producing 290 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque. Simply put, it turns the K5 into a high-performance sedan with a 0-100 km/h time well under 6 seconds.
In contrast, the Forte's base engine, a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder, is a model of frugality, averaging about 6 L/100 km on the highway. And its power is very decent at 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque.
As you can see, there's no shortage of choice or options.
A hatchback?
Do you have a soft spot for hatchbacks and the versatility they offer? If so, you'll have to go with the Forte5, the 5-door version of the Forte. It's hard to find a small car that's this practical. The K5, on the other hand, despite its dramatic rear-end design, doesn't have a hatchback. Its traditional trunk is generous, but the space is less than what you'll find in the Forte5.
Fun behind the wheel
Both models offer very responsive driving experiences. You'll feel in complete control behind the wheel of both. For a little more fun and handling, it's clear that the more compact Forte has the edge. However, the K5 is not to be overlooked on any winding road. Only, it offers a more subdued adventure on the road, which makes it the ideal partner for long distances.
Besides, quality, reliability and resale value are excellent with both models, so you're not making a bad choice here. Stop by to test drive both and find out for yourself.
